On Monday 24^th August, five keen year eleven Legal Studies students travelled to Armidale to visit the Local Court for some practical viewing of the theoretical learning they have undertaken throughout the year. They also visited the University of New England School of Law to partipate in some moot work, hear about what studying law at the university would be like, and to hear some helpful information on how to apply for early entry, which will be extremely important for them in year twelve.

It was an extremely rewarding day and the students appreciated be able to see the practical possibilities of their theoretical learning and the possibilities for further education and a future career in law in the future.

Year 11 Agriculture students recently had the opportunity to visit the local olive farm, Glen Olive, owned by Tom and Judy Hartmann. Tom was extremely generous with his time and knowledge, providing students with a fascinating insight into all aspects of olive production, from growing and harvesting through to processing, packaging and marketing their award-winning olives and olive oil.

Students observed a range of harvesting techniques and machinery used to efficiently collect olives from the trees. They also learned about the pruning methods used to maintain healthy, productive trees and support high-quality fruit production. A highlight of the visit was seeing the machinery and processes involved in manufacturing olive oil, giving students a valuable understanding of how the harvested olives are transformed into the finished product.

The visit was a very enjoyable and informative experience and provided students with a valuable real-world connection to the agricultural industry. A huge thank you to Tom and Judy for welcoming us to Glen Olive and for sharing their time, knowledge and expertise with our students!

During education week GIHS welcomed students from surrounding schools to participate in a Chess Tournament.

This inspiring event brought together primary and high school students to collaborate and learn in a supportive environment, fostering mentorship and teaching chess skills at all levels.

Students had the opportunity to challenge themselves, enhance their strategic thinking, and grow their abilities through guided play and expert coaching.
