Current projects in languages

Digital Elders. Through the Digital Elders program, working with representatives of the Ngoorabul people, our school also offers students a chance to engage with Aboriginal Languages offered by DET programs. The intention is to enable a revival in the use and prevalence of Indigenous Australian languages.

Elders and representatives of the Ngoorabul people of Glen Innes have made use of the Language Centre to share their stories with the world through the videoconference facilities.

Australia-Korea Connexion. Students at the Language Centre can talk with fellow language learners in classrooms across NSW, or across the world. Videoconferences between Korean schools and Glen Innes began for Year 8 in Term 2 of 2011.

DET ‘Get Connected' program. The NSW DET connects its schools through videoconferencing. We are partnered with Braidwood for the Year 7 course.

Japanese Garden.  A multi-stage project is underway to develop an authentic Japanese garden on school grounds. The garden was to designed by Sara Goldstein based on Japanese design principles, flora and construction methods. The project is being overseen by Sandy Fitzgerald and Jennifer Sloman, with funds generously provided by Contiki. The contributions of TAS staff and students in the form of an authentic Shinto-style gate (torii), and timber lanterns, are greatly appreciated.

Green Schools. The language centre is built to the highest environmental standards and features climate control powered through solar panels, and a rainwater tank to feed the school gardens.
