Digital Education Revolution - NSW
The Commonwealth Government's Digital Education Revolution includes an element called the National Secondary Schools Computer Fund. The Commonwealth and NSW Governments have agreed to work together to provide a wirelessly enabled specialist educational laptop to every NSW public school student in years 9 to 12 by 2012.
Program information
The Digital Education Revolution - NSW program, funded through the National Secondary Schools Computer Fund, comprises four major projects. They are:
- rollout of laptop computers to Year 9 cohorts
- installation of a wireless network in all learning spaces in NSW secondary and central schools
- provision of professional learning and curriculum support
- employment of school-based Technology Support Officers supported by Regional DER teams.
Features of the laptops
Lenovo has been selected as the supplier of the laptop personal computers provided to senior secondary students and teachers in NSW government secondary schools. Lenovo has created the DER devices specifically for the education sector. Every year the devices delivered will feature further improvements on the previous models, although the basic functionality will remain the same.
